Great Lives in Colorado History
/ Pesonajes Importantes de la historia de Colorado

We have recently published 20 new volumes for our Colorado biography series, Great Lives in Colorado History.  Now, all together, 33 little biographies designed for elementary readers are available. Written at the 3rd grade level in English and Spanish by Colorado school teachers through our education resources program Writing Bios for Young People, each book contains relevant historical photos and a wealth of information about significant Coloradans in history for young or learning readers. What great gifts these make for our school libraries and our children, grandchildren, and young friends! (And, discounts may apply for orders of multiple titles in the series.)

The project began in an effort to help make the stories of Colorado history and its people more accessible to our Young Chautauqua students, and we have partnered with Denver Public Schools and Filter Press to produce this excellent series of books. The 20 new volumes we launched this year during the Oct. 25 celebration at History Colorado include Rattlesnake Kate Slaughterback, Bill Hosokawa, Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales, Florence Sabin, Fannie Mae Duncan and many others. The whole Great Lives series is published as individual "flip books" that include both English and Spanish translations, and, adding interest and visual information for our young readers, historical photographs pertaining to the biographies. They include study questions, glossaries, timelines and bibliographies. Educators and librarians have long wanted more Colorado history, particularly biography, written and designed for young scholars, and we are happy to announce that the Great Lives in Colorado History series is now easily available from Filter Press.
