2012 Black History Live Tour

Hasan Davis as 19th Century Ex-slave and Civil War Soldier, Angus Augustus Burleigh.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, Hasan Davis will portray Angus Augustus Burleigh, a 19th-century ex-slave, soldier and scholar who became an acclaimed black educator and minister.  Davis's electrifying portrayal of Burleigh provides audiences with an experience of the Civil War through his vast knowledge of Burleigh and African-American history.

In addition to being a stellar performer, Davis holds a Juris Doctorate, serves on the Federal Juvenile Justice Advisory committee, and owns his own business, Empowerment Solutions, focusing on youth development. Drawing on his multiple talents, Davis presents African-American characters from the past in ways that encourage audiences to read and understand more about their cultural and ethnic history, and motivates them to reach for higher education and personal achievements.

Black History Live is an annual statewide tour by nationally recognized scholars sponsored by Colorado Humanities to raise awareness of the contributions African Americans have made to our history and culture.  For more information, please contact Betty Jo Brenner at brenner@coloradohumanities.org.
